Privacy on Ethereum
Ethereum is transparent by default: all transactions and balances are public. Great for auditability and composability; challenging for personal and enterprise privacy.
Existing tools: mixing protocols (Tornado Cash, etc.—regulatory headwinds), privacy L2s (Aztec), and zero-knowledge proofs for selective disclosure.
Roadmap direction: move privacy from optional add-on toward network-level defaults protecting what users read, send, and prove on-chain.
Privacy vs compliance tension: full anonymity may block institutional adoption; compliant privacy (view keys, selective disclosure) is the practical middle ground.
For ETH research: privacy upgrades may unlock new use cases (institutional settlement, sensitive dapps), expanding total on-chain activity and indirectly supporting ETH demand.
